Read the following ESPN article on Schnellenberger and marvel at a legend who took football programs declared dead and turned them into national wonders. Think Miami and Louisville and now Florida Atlantic University as they play their first bowl game tonight and in 2010 will play in a new 30,000 seat on-site stadium.

FAU is a large commuter school with several campuses in football rich Florida. USF and UCF have grown exponentially on the gridiron and they are similar to FAU. All three swung for the fence and hit it out. They had a plan from the top down and the facilities/funding to make it work.
Big difference is that the State of Florida support/funds college sports (facilities), California doesn’t.
