Sac Rat,
First off, my blog was not meant as fodder for you to turn Sac State fans against me. So directing readers to our Web site to lash out is not needed. Second, as a Northern California native I have several friends that are athletes at Sac State. Many of them have told me that student support at sporting events (not just football) is lacking severely at Sac State. I wouldn’t call 10,000 fans a game big time support when Fresno State averages nearly three times that amount. I am merely making the point that many schools in the CSU system (even Fresno State to some extent) suffer from the fact that they are “commuter” schools and do not receive as much support from the community as bigger California schools such as USC or Cal. I wouldn’t say Sac State is the center of the sports world in Sacramento like Fresno State is for Fresno. Sac State has to compete with several other sports entities, not to mention the numerous high schools in the area so that is why, in my opinion, they struggle to gain support. Again, this is why it’s a blog, it’s all opinion. I always encourage comments, so thank you very much for taking the time to check us out.
Jimmy Graben, Fresno State Collegian
First, my posting it was not to encourage people to turn on you, but simply to demonstrate that there is fan support for Hornet football. Secondly, for you to write that “there is absolutely no support from students and the majority of fans at their games are fellow athletes” is factually incorrect and disingenuous. You can’t make absolute statements like that based on what your Sac State “athlete friends” tell you. Plus, your story was written in the context of football. I didn’t state that 10,000 fans a game was “big time” support. Your words, not mine. It was merely to point out that your “absolutely no support from students” is wrong, when we have students showing up to football games. You insult the fraternities and sororities who show up to the games and participate in pre-game activities.
So, if my friend, who went to Fresno State, said all the students were either rednecks or needed remedial english or math, that doesn’t make it true? He is a redneck, by the way.
Jimmy,
Welcome to college… You’re free game now. Way to sell out your old H.S. Baseball buddy too. Maybe he picked the wrong sport.
Sac Rat,
I just fail to see how barely filling half of Hornet Stadium means there is fan support, that’s all. You said that Sac averages 10,000 fans per game, but doesn’t the stadium hold a little over 20,000? But maybe most of those are students? I’m not there so maybe you have the numbers on it. Idk, basically I’ve noticed that across California many schools (not in the Pac-10) are losing support for its football program, even Fresno State. That’s my final piece about that, I don’t feel like debating about this all day. Again, there was no intent to insult anybody, but some friendly banter is always good. If you want to write a letter to the editor let me know and we can post it for you. Just send me an email with some contact information. Thanks again for checking out our site.
And “anonymous,”
funny, I didn’t know I had “buddies” on the baseball team or that I had “sold them out.” Yes I am free game, but first I would actually use your name if you want to be taken seriously. It doesn’t take much to say something hiding behind a fake name.
Stung,
LOL
1. You fail to see or acknowledge that your statement from an “anonymous” friend who claims “there is absolutely no support from students” is, once again, incorrect, disingenuous, and insulting. 2. You now want to change the premise of your argument by saying that 10,000k fans doesn’t translate into fan support. Common sense would lead you to make a high percentage safe assumption that students would be part of that 10k and thereby refute your “anonymous” friend’s claim. 3. “I’m not there so maybe you have the numbers on it” Seriously? Your the reporter. Have you thought about doing a little research, making a few calls, or are you just willing to believe whatever your “anonymous” friend tells you. 4. I didn’t take it as an insult. You insult the student groups and students who show up to the games by saying they don’t existent. 5. Sac State fans do turn out more fans for men’s soccer than Fresno. That’s banter.
Rat,
You are THE man!
Rat,
If you want to take one line from my blog and use it as your grandstand that Sac State has the best student section in college football be my guest. But you totally missed the point of what the blog was about. For some reason you think I’m attacking Sac State when I’m actually just making the point that it’s sad to see the decline in football programs across California. But for some reason you want to start an argument about student support at Sac State? So did you go and talk with every single student on campus today? I wasn’t aware I insulted so many people and organizations. Just because YOU feel that way doesn’t mean you represent the entire Sac State student body. I’m just amazed how you took a statement from my blog and turned it into something entirely different than it was meant to imply. Sorry but I’m going to take the opinions of the athletes over yours.
PS – We don’t have men’s soccer so you’re probably right about that.
Jimmy Garbo, go back to your concrete jungle… clown…
I thought you didn’t want to debate all day. : ) Once again, and maybe I should repeat this very sloooowwwwwlllyy. I never claimed, stated, or said that “Sac State has the best student section in college football.” For the third time; you used an “anonymous” source, or shall we call him “Deep Throat” to say that Sac State had “absolutely no support from students.” I didn’t start an argument, I was simply pointing out an error. No need for hard feelings, just calling it like I see it. Plus, someone peed in my Cheerios this morning and I am feelin ornery. Yet, it doesn’t matter how I feel or what I believe. The fact is there are students who do support Hornet sports. You can’t say “absolutely not.” It ain’t rocket science. And no need to apologize. If anything, I should apologize to my mama for not following her advice. Maybe I will see you on of them talking head news shows sometime where fiction seems to prevail over fact. Now, aren’t you glad you wasted your valuable time with me? And, thanks for increasing traffic to my blog on a slow Friday. Well done.
P.S. – I know Fresno doesn’t have men’s soccer. Thus, the joke.
Rat,
You’re so far beyond this guy, it’s not even funny. The tool didn’t even get your men’s soccer joke!
Anyways, I’m confident his source is Aaron Crouch (Baseball), they played together in High School.

If Sac averages 10K a game and BBQ U has maybe 7K a game, does that mean there is no support from students for BBQ U? You are bashing your own program by making that stupid statement. Besides the Montana schools, Sac has the third highest attendance in the BSC.
Let us know when you play big boy football. Is it really saying much that “Besides the Montana schools, Sac has the third highest attendance in the BSC.” Who gives a rip?
Oh ya, remember 2007?
24-3, Sac State couldn’t even score a touchdown in Fresno.
This argument is now irrelevant.
Go ‘Dogs.
Yawn. Let us know when you beat someone relevant. The Dawgs haven’t been the same since they came close to beating USC. Which is really too bad. Luv Pat Hill and the blue collar mentality.
Watched ‘Gangland’ last night on History Channel. Gang that was spotlighted was a Fresno gang that goes by the name ‘Bulldogs’ and they have adopted the Fresneck mascot, colors and logos as their gang sign.
Thats something to be proud of.
Hahahaha Hoi Poi, I LOVE IT!!!
“Watched ‘Gangland’ last night on History Channel…”
Watched College Football Live last night. Sac State lost 49-10 to WEBER STATE. Now that’s some quality Division-I football. Have fun struggling with Davis (we beat them 51-0 FYI).
Go Dogs
How sad. From anywhere to anytime, and not beating them, to bragging about a win over a 1aa team.
